How do I force Statseeker to display a different Device Name?
There are a couple of ways to force Statseeker to display a Device Name:
1. Select the device in the Statseeker Console GUI and run the Device Details report from the General section, then click on the existing name or IP Address in the Device column.
Then set the name in the box that opens and click the Rename button.
If a name is set that already exists in Statseeker then the device will revert to the IP Address when you try to change it.
2. Delete the device and put an entry in the Statsseker Admin Tool GUI > Network Discovery - Advanced Options section > Hosts File page Hosts File box and save it.
Then discover the device by hosts file.
An SNMPWalk of the sysname of a device will show the SNMP reply from the device without any modification by Statseeker.
For example a sysName could be "BCH3SW001.cisco.acme.local" which follows the usual practice for this field of "An administratively-assigned name for this managed node. By convention, this is the node's fully-qualified domain name."
e.g.
1721285968 10.2.20.204 2 public 1.3.6.1.2.1.1.5.0 SNMPv2-MIB.sysName.0 OCTET-STRING BCH3SW001.cisco.acme.local
By default Statseeker then strips the domain from the sysName and then uses it for the device name.
e.g. in this case it will be:
BCH3SW001
